Hi Apeksha. Unfortunately, this is all we have currently. In the meantime, could I direct you to the activity sheets download page for worksheets similar to the ones included in the workbook?

Hi Neh. Yes. We only have lessons in English. Generally, I would recommend teaching languages you are using at home or at least have someone who is able to communicate it with your child in that language. Young children tend to give their attention to things where there is a clear benefit to them. If there is no one to speak to them in that language, they will lose the interest to learn it. Even if they do learn the lanaguage, they will lose it without continuous exposure. For instance, you may see a young child picking up a foreign language spoken by a nanny very easily but once the nanny leaves and no one else is able to speak the language, the child quickly forgets it.

Hi Neh. Doman’s reading program is intended to be used with very young children. To make the words more relevant to your child’s world, the verbs are taught in the present tense as this is the tense that is most useful to a young child in their daily life as they make everyday observations, e.g. “Mummy singing”, “baby eating”. As your child masters the basics, you can then start to incorporate verbs in past and future tense – eat, eating, eaten; sing, singing, sang. Does this answer your question?

Hi You Qian. If you haven’t already, I recommend reading this post about using flashcards – https://rightbrainchild.com/2021/05/04/the-purpose-of-flashcards-in-early-learning/ – since it covers the different reasons why we use flashcards in early learning. Depending on your goals, how you choose to use them will differ.

Specifically to your query, if you are facing your child and using physical cards, then you will need to have the words on the back of the card so you can read them out as you flash the cards to your child without having to check what is on the front of the card. If you would like your child to learn to recognise the words, then you should have the text printed on a separate card so he can also see the word that accompanies the image.

In the Glenn Doman method for teaching reading, they usually just show the words without pictures. This is fine with objects that your child is already familiar with. However, once you come to words of objects your child may not have seen in his daily life, he may disconnect since the word has little meaning in his world. This is where images can add meaning so he can see what the word refers to.

I hope that helps. Feel free to reach out if you need to clarify anything further.

                      Hi Yaseepoh,

Yes, it is a very good idea! You can do the exact same program with Chinese as you have done in English. I highly encourage you to start as soon as possible because the ideal time to start teaching another language is before your baby’s first birthday. Also, second languages should, ideally, be taught by someone who knows the language to teach the correct pronunciation. Hi Yaseepoh,

Thank you for your kind comments. Before I get to your questions, I would like to direct you to this post, if you have not already read it: https://rightbrainchild.com/2021/05/04/the-purpose-of-flashcards-in-early-learning/ – as it will give you a little more background on the different ways flashcards are used. It is good to keep these purposes in mind as you use your flashcards so you can decide how often you need to repeat them and what you are trying to achieve when you use them.

As for repeating flashcards, if your child is enjoying them, there is no reason why you shouldn’t repeat them. It is important to repeat older topics from time to time to reinforce the learning. You can read a little more about that here: https://rightbrainchild.com/2020/11/15/right-brain-education-schedule-planning/#spaced

Regarding the flashing of 1000 cards, this is for Shichida’s speed play activity, which you can read more about here: https://rightbrainchild.com/2020/06/15/activity-speed-play/ – remember that the main purpose of this activity is brain activation rather than teaching knowledge. So yes, you can use the same 1000 cards you have created or change them up if you wish.

Since your baby is 5 months, keep your lessons short – not more than 5 minutes. You can do them as you described – a morning program, afternoon program and evening program. Or you can slot them in as a quick activity at various times during the day, for instance, early morning, mid-morning, noon, afternoon, evening, before bed time. So you might split your encyclopedic program across two sessions. Treat these sessions as bonding/play time – your baby loves spending time with you so this really isn’t a lot. When conducting lessons, keep in mind that you are sharing something fun and exciting and your tone and demeanour should reflect that. Most of us associate learning with a serious, factual teacher standing in front of a class with a no-nonsense attitude. This is absolutely not what we want to do with our children. Lessons should always be playful and fun.

From the sounds of it, I think you’re doing a great job! Well done, mama. Do feel free to reach out if you have any other questions, or if I haven’t explained something very clearly.
